HIP-HOP: The Other Double Standard And More

So the other night I was coming out the bathroom of a popular steakhouse chain. there were about six skater-guys crammed into a booth and as I walked past, I heard one yell, "Skate or Dies!" Dude wasn't putting his own spin on Sean Combs' voting drive but he was talking about the sneakers I had on--Nike's latest creation the "Skate or Die" dunk.

That story wasn't to ride my own jock (maybe a little) but to show how crazy the sneaker game is right now. BoOgie put up a post on the sneaker and from the grinds it got, it looks like some of you guys might scream "Skate or Dies" too. Well, except for Craig Redman who commented, "They're pretty hot, but not the best that's been done." That's true but it is one of the best that has been coming out from Nike this year.

From the files of GTFOH (you figure out the acronym), comes a post from Global Grind legend kwame06 on Suge Knight getting whooped by an actor named Angel Wainright. Whether or not it really happened isn't what caught my attention. I find it interesting that in all the comments, everyone praised the woman for "jabbing" Suge in the eyes and wailing on him. In a nutshell, physically assaulting him. What if the roles were reversed? Would Suge have gotten the same support had he jabbed her in the eye? Maybe not. There would have been a cry for his immediate castration. Suge should have called the cops and pressed charges.

Cocoa's post on Lil' Wayne saying no-no-no to rehab is the perfect example of why you should have an open talk with your kids about the entertainment they're consuming. Chevii21 says, "He gone do him" which is a good point but there's nothing wrong with at least pointing out the consequences of his actions even if he doesn't see them himself. The man has children that could wind up fatherless due to his direct actions. Meezblack17 has a point too saying that "if u cant help yourself first, what makes you think u can change him" but what happens when Weezy is high on syrup driving a Ferrari and runs someone over? That we should have a say in. What do yall think?

Wow that's some relevant statements you just gave. Not into kicks like i used to be so I can't comment on that, but Poor Suge has to change his environment/lifestyle to break the violent cycle he's been in most his life. Same thing with Weezy only replace violence with drugs...

weezy although a top rapper in the entertainment industry needs to come down off the god complex. I thought when he was really making changes in his life when he went to Univ of Houston. What good is the knowledge if you don't use it in your everyday life...now that would be a true role model to those listening, a rapper that doesn't use...
