I was checkin’ a great story uploaded by Black Womens Web today and had to wonder if there is any hope left for singer Lauryn Hill? Apparently, Rita Marley, the estranged widow of reggae legend Bob Marley, is looking to produce the first ever biopic of her late husband’s life and has chosen Lauryn Hill to play her in the film. Lauryn Hill is married and has five kids by Rohan Marley, Bob’s son by another woman, Janet Hunt.
This should be an interesting biopic as Rita has once confessed that Bob Marley raped her during their marriage and she endured many years of him cheating and bearing kids by other women. "Just because he did these things and cheated on me doesn't mean he was a bad husband," she was quoted as saying during an interview promoting the book “No Woman, No Cry.” "He always provided for me, always gave me anything I wanted."
Allegedly, Lauryn Hill has experienced similar things in her self pro-claimed marriage to Rohan Marley. According to an article in Rolling Stone magazine, L Boogie found out that Rohan was already married with two kids after she bore their first child but that she continued to call him her husband, telling those who questioned her marriage “What, do I have to get a government official to tell me I'm married?” Even more interesting is the fact that Lauryn, allegedly, used Rohan to pull herself out of a bad relationship with Fugee's frontman Wyclef Jean, and had secretly hoped that Wyclef was the father of her first child, Zion.
I don’t know about you, but Lauryn Hill’s story seems worthy of a biopic in itself. She allowed bad relationships to mar her career, reportedly turning down numerous acting roles including Borne Identity, the Matrix Trilogy, and Lucy Lui’s role in Charlie’s Angels. Every time the Fugees attempt to reunite for another album, there seems to be tension in the studio and has resulted in both Wyclef and Pras calling her crazy, like in this clip posted by Global Grind member kwame06. I have to wonder if those feelings for Wyclef are still there and the driving force behind the fall out of the Fugees. I’ve always said, a man has the power to drive a woman crazy, and in this case, screw up a career. Sidebar: Stay focused ladies!
This role would be good therapy for Lauryn Hill and I’m thinking she can get some of those repressed feelings out. A good question would be, can Lauryn fly out of the Coo Coo’s nest long enough to make this happen? - Necole Bitchie
