LIFESTYLE: Revenge Of The Nerds

It's funny how no matter who you are, you'll get a chance to shine at some point in your life. Sure, the levels of shine can vary—from high-profile shine to a local, grass-roots type of shine. Take the whole "geek and nerd" phenomenon. Back in the '80s, geeks and nerds were hunted down and destroyed by jocks, stoners, gangsters and the rest of the popular, cool kids. It's not like that any longer. Oh no, on the contrary, geeks and nerds are experiencing a huge wave of popularity and acceptance by the mainstream these days. All thanks to the Geek God, Mr. Bill Gates  (who is the coolest nerd on the planet). If there were a geek religious sect, Gates would definitely be the L. Ron Hubbard of that movement. Geeks struggled long and hard in their own quiet way watching from the sidelines for any sign to make their move across the front lines into social acceptance. I saw it coming though. It was inevitable that the globe was going high-tech and the nerds would have their day. Well, that day has come a thousand fold. Now that the ball is in the their court, the geeks need to handle it correctly. That means getting their gear up and looking fly while programming all them games and applications. GG member, Bill, a rather nerdy looking dude himself (which is OK), has posted about a revolutionary pair of jeans that should have every member of the Geek Squad clicking their mouses with glee. It is the first pair of jeans to have a fully-functioning computer keyboard built-in to the crotch area. They also come equipped with "crotch rocking speakers" sewn into the knees, a butt pocket for your mouse "and for you gamers, there is a joystick controller located just behind the front zipper." So, watch out ladies, next time you see someone fiddling with their wee-wee at Starbucks, don't turn away in disgust. It just might be a desirable geek playing with his joystick.

Another posting by Bill further blurs the lines between nerds, fashion and bling. Behold the 24K gold Macbook Air. This thing has apparently got Apple chief, Steve Jobs (another really cool nerd) feeling really glum. This is what usually happens when a "new" sub-culture becomes the in-thing. People get it twisted and misinterpret the core sense of the culture. The golden Mac comes with an optional Apple logo ensconced in multi-colored sapphires, which would bring the price of this laptop to almost $10,000. This horrendous eye-sore is the equivalent of all things wrong with hip-hop culture today. It's flashy, gaudiness is totally unnecessary and has nothing to do with nerds pushing the boundaries of technology. What do you think? -Sugarbread
