I didn't realize how much New York has affected my approach to clothes in regards to color until a good friend of mine, who lives in California, told me he bought a khaki suit. I cringed but then remembered that he lives in California and the function for which he bought the suit is a beach wedding in L.A. So it's totally fine.

There are some things that just don't look good standing next to dark buildings which touch the sky and boast 16th century gothic architecture. A khaki suit, mayhaps, is one of them. You see, in New York it's a little bit of a challenge to get to any kind direct sunlight and sunlight makes everything look fun and happy. That's why every year white folks flock to Central Park to "tan." Since moving here, I have attained a high-yellow-ness that I didn't even know my complexion was capable of. And as far as make up is concerned, black eyeliner works best while bronzer is reduced to "browner" considering its light-reflective properties are a little obsolete in the shade. But I think this is ok...maybe. It's certainly better than living in England. The currency there is better but man that place has the sh***iest weather of all. Albeit, there are definitely exceptions, and perhaps I'm feeling this way due to the arduous, long, and stupid winter we've just had--the second of which I've had to endure in my 25 years on this earth...twenty of said years spent on the beach in L.A. But I never, in a million years, thought I would consider 58 degrees 'nice,' or go shopping for black t-strap sandals at Barney's. Well I do, and I did. Really stealth, black t-strap sandals to go with the black silk jersey off the shoulder 'genie in a bottle', but rich and fashion-forward-looking jumpsuit I copped from Tibi. Expert ninja. -Charlie
