They say "guilty until proven innocent," so will you still be "Stepping in the Name of Love"? To say I was disgusted when I heard R. Kelly was acquitted of all charges last Friday is an understatement. In the grinded story "Black Women Are The Real Losers In The R. Kelly Case" the author points out that this case was an example of the "laxity with which authorities often treat crimes against Black women."
Unfortunately, there wasn't much authorities could do without the cooperation of the alleged victim. In a story grinded by KDollaz1, the jurors revealed that they in fact believed that R. Kelly was the man on the tape, however they could not convict R. Kelly without testimony from the victim or her parents. Nevermind that R. Kelly's fetish for young girls and settled lawsuits documents as far back as 2006.
Are we as black woman at fault for some of the sh*t that happens to us” ? People look at us and say we allow ourselves to be disrespected in songs and videos. This black woman in particular had the opportunity to have a man --who is known for preying on under age girls--locked under the jail, and she refuses to testify against him leaving him to roam free and victimize someone else! What kind of culture are we living in?? Parents would rather pimp their daughters off and be paid off than to seek justice. We hear this story time and time again Now if that was a white woman's child, her parents would have pressed charges years ago and he would have been singing "Bump and Grind" from Cell Block 4.
Again, I should ask, are we as black women, at fault for allowing things like this to happen to us?
