Remember the hit by Biggie "Mo Money Mo Problems"? Jay-z isn't a stranger to this saying, as over the years he has managed to be the target of quite a few public beefs and battles with people that have been envious of his success. But somehow through all the tell-all books, wax battles and youtube videos meant to damage his character, Jay has managed to play his cards well eliminating baggage from his life, one low life at a time. In the latest saga of his "Rags To Riches" story, Foxy Brown in an attempt to gain some press for her low selling album, claims that Jay-Z used to be her "Clyde" . In XXL September 2008's cover story she reveals that although she was loyal to Jay-z, he chose to walk away and left her broken hearted.
"Jay and I have history. There are things that he could have done better, as far as his loyalty to me, and I’m sure I’ve made mistakes that he felt he could’ve prevented.” Foxy chokes up. “When I lost my hearing, Jay gave me the respect to go heal myself. He stuck with me along the way. But there are times when I just really needed him, and it wasn’t even about Foxy Brown and Jay-Z. It was just like, ‘I need you to help me save my life,’ and he just wasn’t there.”
The tears are streaming down her cheeks. “I would never denounce him in public. That’s just how I feel. But I’ve been incarcerated for eight months, and Jay’s been everywhere, and he hasn’t mentioned one thing about, ‘Tell her I love her. Tell her to be strong.’ That broke my heart more than anything. When they sent me to jail, I just knew he would be there-everyone came. But he never showed up… My mother always says, jay also said this,in the tru life freestyle ‘Inga, when a person shows you who they are, believe them. Been showing me all through the years and you just don’t wanna believe it.’”
But Foxy isn't the first person who says Jay-z has alienated himself from them and kicked them to the curb. We can't forget the infamous youtube videos by Jay-z's former childhood friend De-haven who claims he hasn't talked to Jay-z since he was released from prison. Former Princess of the Roc, Teairra Marie spoke on Jay-z in a recent interview and claims her former Boss hasn't said a word to her since he dropped her from the label, although she considered him a father figure:
"When I first got signed I was 16. Jay-Z treated me like I was his daughter almost. Everything was great. That's why when everything happened it was a little shocking, 'cause it was like a family thing. I haven't heard from him since I've been away from Roc-A-Fella. My opinion of him today is probably the same as it was. As far as Jay-Z as an artist, I have nothing negative to say about him, he's the greatest. But, like I said, he was calling me his daughter and all that, that's what I thought it was because I respect his word...I haven't really spoken to him so it could be something else."
And who knows what happened between Jay-z and former first lady of the Roc, Amil. Remember her? Rumor has it Jay-z dropped her from Rocafella for getting in fights with his assistants and gaining weight, but neither has spoken on the split publicly.
So should we consider the man that Beyonce chose to marry cold hearted as some chose to paint him. He seems to have a way with easily detaching himself from people who are close to him without warning or remorse. The way I look at it, in life we have to chose who will take that ride with us and some people you have to let off at the next stop. It's up to you to choose your weakest links and eliminate them…and unfortunately for Foxy, Amil, Dehaven and Teairra Marie, they were all "the weakest link".
So I have to ask this question; Is Jay-z an example of someone who has forgotten his past? When you achieve a certain level of success parrallel to Jay-z's, how do you balance your past life and relationships with what you have going on in the present?
