Your Source For What's Hot on Global Grind

Tionna On The Town

Hey everybody, what's up? This is your favorite Grinder, Tionna Smalls aka Talkdatishgirl, here giving you the real about what's hot. This past weekend was extremely exciting for me. I went to a plus size fashion show for the first time in my life. The show was for Douglas Says' Plus-U fashion line and took place at Escuelita, a club in Manhattan.

I was invited to the show by a very good friend of mine who didn't give me any details about what was going to go down. So believe me, I was in utter shock when I saw trans-gender, thick and tasty models come down the runway. There were trans-gender models and some drag queens, and when I tell you they ripped the runway, honey, they ripped the runway. Especially the divalicious, chesty model who gave her name only as Sapphire. I think Douglas has a good model in this chick.

When it comes down to the clothing line, Plus-U itself, I wasn't really impressed. I mean, the whole show focused around a material I think a real fat girl should never wear-- SPANDEX. Yes, please shoot me in my head if you ever, I mean ever, catch me in 100 percent Spandex. I think some of the ideas Douglas had-- like the green dress with the crystals on the collar with the pink and green cape --would have came out great if he didn't use Spandex.

Spandex makes the stitching look cheap and it wasn't helpful for the ladies who aren't up on Spanx and still rock the zip up girdles (yes, you can see the lining of the girdle through the Spandex). So that's what turned me off even after I saw this nice black, cocktail dress, closed by a plastic buckle--yeah that was hot. Overall, I enjoyed the show, the models, the "glam" that they were gunning for, but I think that Douglas Says has a long way to go if he wants to compete with the Monif C's and Lane Bryant's of this big girl ish.
