It is our responsibility to protect our futures.  Time is running out.  You must register by Monday October 6th.  Barack Obama cannot win this election on his own; he needs our help. This election is about us.  This election is about our children’s future. If you have not registered to vote, you are disrespecting everyone that sacrificed their lives for you to have this right. You are also disrespecting your future.

The time is NOW for us to use the voices with which God has blessed us. We need you to do all you can. Here is what we need to do:

I think the push for voter registration is a great thing for entertainers to get into, it show’s their dedication to social and economical issues. However, just because “they” say enough is enough should not influence anyone to get out and register to vote because it’s politically correct for “them” now. With the exception of “Diddy” did they not have the same interest in voting in 2004, even so in 2000?

Your interest in exercising your constitutional right to vote should come from those who lost their lives, beaten with clubs, sprayed with fire hoses and bitten by dogs. Not from an entertainer! If you would rather be swayed by Mary, instead of looking back at history shame on YOU!

This upcoming election is bigger than Senator Obama himself, its American history in the making; its American’s standing up and saying we need accountability in our Government and today is the day we get it!!!

Take part in American history, but use history as the motivation ional influence, not because Kevin Liles said so!

The intention of that post was to inform the some of the disenfranchised youth of today to know your complete history, ohh I forgot most are not in school they are watching re-runs of Bet’s waste of programming time 106 & Park…Let’s address that in a post as well...lol...

It shouldn't have to take entertainers to influence those who are not registered to vote to get out there and get registered. Due to the dire circumstances that we're facing within this country we should all want change and we should all be on point by being registered to vote. But you know like I know, there are still a lot of people (Black, White, etc.) who are leaving it up to someone else to handle the voting business for them. It's a beautiful thing for these entertainers to reach out the way they have.

I don't care where the message comes from as long as it is received and is met with a positive outcome (everyone taking heed and registering before the deadlines, then voting on Nov. 4th).

Black people should definitely exercise their constitutional right to vote, especially after all of things that Blacks have had to endure in order to obtain this right. But the only reason anyone should be ashamed is if they do not register and vote!

The youth of today do need to know "their complete history." But what makes you think its being taught in the school system? More reason for CHANGE!

I believe everyone should vote just because it is our right in this country. The changes, heart-aches and pains, downfall of the economy, and turmoils of our current president are only a few problems our America has been facing. You have to be aware of the issues in order to understand what needs to be changed or worked on. Watching the news, political debates, and talking to intelligent people are some ways of keeping up. I am going to vote for Obama, because, to me he represents change for the better,for the people. If it takes the influences of Mary J. Blige and Jay Z to get you involved, then by all means, LISTEN! Time is running out so don't waste it. If you are not registered to vote get on your job. BARACK OBAMA YA'LL !!! HELP INFLUENCE THE FUTURE!!!! VOTE ON NOV.4,2008!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@Urban,

I don’t have an issue with the mere fact of them being involved. What puzzles me is why wait until it’s dangerously close to do this? But I do agree, as long as it’s getting done, that’s great. However the average responsible American has been entrenched with this upcoming battle since last fall!

With the youth not knowing the history, I blame the parent’s before I blame an educational system. It starts in the home (going out on a tangent) we have lost focus with the fundamental foundations of how to raise a child. It’s almost as if parents are too concerned with “not allowing my child to go thru what I did” it’s crippled many youth and its effects are obvious. Most kids are more concerned with what they are wearing or having a “Rap Career”, or being a “Model” than going on to post secondary education.

I honestly believe that local government has more pull to improve the educational systems then the federal. Because most school systems are run at a city or county level. So I say that it’s equally important to vote locally and place who you need in those positions, it’s just not a federal change, it’s a local change as well.

This exchange was productive! thank you. By the way nice website over there as well.

You are the reason why we are telling the youth to go and vote. We have been disenfranchized for years and hear you come with "we should'nt because who ever said so"  Go sit your ass down somewhere and play a video game.  I want the head of companies that happen to be black to lead my son in the right direction.  Do you have clout like Diddy, Jay, Mary and Kevin?  I'll wait! No!!!! just like I thought.  You should be glad that we have each others back, or are you not part of us?  Stop acting like a crab in a barrel and let us move along and do what we were put here to do. LEAD!!!! and if you have anything else to say you can see me at myspace.com/poppajayandlissa.
